Posted .

There is so much information emerging about the importance of oral health. Oral health can affect the entire body. Therefore, to live a healthy lifestyle it is important to find the proper care. So what is an orthodontist and why is it important to find an experienced one?

What is the role of an Orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a dentist who has completed four years of dental school plus another three years of specialized orthodontic studies. Orthodontics is a dentistry specialty that diagnoses, prevents, manages and corrects mal-positioned teeth, jaws and misaligned bites. Orthodontics also addresses the modification of facial growth and abnormal alignment of the teeth and jaw.

Why is it so important to find a good Orthodontist?

Besides helping you achieve the smile of your dreams, orthodontists serve to keep your mouth healthy. The extra training orthodontists undergo ensures a stronger likelihood of positive results and a healthy bite. Teeth that are misaligned and not properly taken care of can result in abnormal wearing of tooth enamel which can lead to extensive and expensive dental procedures.

There are many reasons to visit an experienced orthodontist. Here are a few:

  • Orthodontists can help a patient achieve the smile of their dreams through braces and aligners.
  • Orthodontists treat overbites, underbites, open bites, crossbites, crowding, and spacing, which will give patients healthier smiles.
  • Orthodontists ensure teeth are moved in a healthy way.
  • A healthy smile leads to healthier overall wellness.
  • A beautiful smile gives patients more self-esteem in social settings.
